Monday & Tuesday We will tidy-up the Documentary Unit with the following - self-assess your Videonot.es with the rubric - complete self-assessments - attach the work you did on filmmaker interview and the golden sheet about a feature length documentary - I should have your documentary analysis done in Videonot.es  by now. Should have been sent to dadamsonline@gmail.com. Make sure you have met the rubric criteria. I looked over 3 or 4 and most people so far have discussed the types of shots, but nothing else regarding the manipulative/persuasive techniques used in documentaries. Check the rubric and resend your files to me if necessary. - watch a couple documentaries? Thursday Christmas Anagram Antics!  Wean again Mary. Good copy of ad deconstruction is due today at the end of class. 1.  Camera work. In groups of 2,3 or 4 you are to create a documentary sequence (pick a specific mode ex. reflexive, poetic, etc) using ALL the camera shots on the green/red handouts. Your job is to define each type of shot - write your definition on the handouts - what is it? Find out why it is important; why is it used; how does it affect the audience. You are to create an example of each shot's use with your phones in your mini documentary. Make sure you can get the sequence to me so that it can be shared with the rest of the class.  2. Nanook of the North.   Flaherty and Nanook collaborated in creating the events for the film. Nanook and his family were not simply recorded as they lived their life, but were asked to perform certain (some of them typical) behaviors for the benefit of the cameras. Flaherty did not, in the manner of a cinema-verite filmm

Thursday Today's word is Brexiteer* - any guesses what it means? 1. Guidelines for the literary novel response are in the links section of this blog. 2. Make sure that you deal with the 3 levels of reading in your response: 1) basic comprehension of the text; 2) how does the author say what they say (structure, organization, style, literary techniques); 3) BIG IDEAs about life, society, human behaviour that are becoming apparent. 3. For this response you are not to use any secondary sources such as Sparknotes or Shmoop to help interpret/understand the novel. Therefore, you will not need to use quotes or cite any sources. Your entire response must be "outta your own head." 4. Identify the pages you have read ex. pages 1-35. 5. Submission instructions for Block D/H (morning class) - make sure your student number is on your response. Print it and hand it in. 6. Submission instructions for Block B/F (afternoon class) - EMAIL your response to dadamso
