Thursday Hink Pink: test expert 1. Reading time for literary fiction book. 2. Block F - we need to mark yesterday's quiz.     Block H - make sure you have attached the rubric to your ad deconstruction 3. Make sure you have identified the evidence of quality on your ad deconstruction. 4. Peer editors - complete the orange check list for the deconstructions 5. I am going to see as many people as I can during class to check over your ad deconstruction. If you want feedback, and I don't get to you today, come in to see me tomorrow morning.  6. Visual literacy - complete final self-reflection. 7. Semi-colon usage. We will be in Room 100 for most of the class. Make sure you check your grades for term 1 to see if anything is missing. Hink  Pink  Week! Thursday 1. Time in to work on the ad deconstruction. Wednesday Nightbird grimace 1. You will have tomorrow's class to work on your ad deconstruction. 2. Quiz on visual literacy terms. 3. Read "Conventionally Speaking." Before reading, pick a genre and with a partner, list some of the conventions of that genre. During reading, keep a t-chart list of the points the author makes about genre fiction vs literary fiction. 4. Library  - pick up your literary fiction book for term 2. Thursday Term novel assignment -  Non-fiction Books You are responsible for reading at least one non-fiction book this term.  You will be selecting something from the non-fiction recommended list available on the blog. If you find another book that you wish to read that is not on the list below, please check with me before committing to it for the term. Based on the text and its themes, language, ideas, etc., you will create a personal response of about 2 typed, double-spaced pages (minimum 500 words) At the top of your response, provide a definition of non-fiction . Mention the title of the book and the author’s name Paragraph #1    reading on-the-lines Key question: What is the text saying? What is the book saying? Block D/H only - Photo Fuss #1 - discussion of answers to the questions. Beef-up your answers. Review/revise your answers to the questions on the Photo Fuss #2.  3. There will be a small quiz on Visual Literacy terms next week. Review terms in class today and ensure they are written on the blue sheet. 4. A reminder - the digitally altered image write-up was due last week. It is now late. Please get it to me by Thursday, at the latest, or you will be spending time with me on Friday. 5. Thursday Phew, found another cat palindrome! 1. 7 more days to finish reading your non-fiction book. 2. Mark the run-on sentence practice handed out on Monday. 3. Go over the Photo Fuss sheet #1. Make appropriate changes to sheet #2 based on our discussion. 4. Look at the following web site:  https://www.sophia.org/tutorials/deconstruct-media-messages 5. Add the following words to your blue sheet: deconstruct, source, text, subtext, audience, persuasion technique, point of view. You should already have: context, ethical, etc from yesterday. 6. Read through the deconstruction example on the web site. With a partner, go through the discussion questions beneath the ad. Talk over the answers.
